Rostov-on-Don is compared to an open-air architectural museum – there are many magnificent facades, monuments and sculptures. Start your walk from Bolshaya Sadovaya Street and see for yourself. It is called “Nevsky Prospekt” for its beauty, and one of its sections is called “Broadway” for the buildings bearing the names of the owners. The main decoration is ancient mansions in eclectic and modern styles.

Being in a city located on a great river, you can’t help but stroll along its banks. Rostov embankments are located opposite each other on different sides of the Don. There are many monuments on the Ushakov embankment, and on Novaya there is a young park created for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Both offer wonderful views of the city.

The oldest in the Don capital, it is divided into two parts: “upper” and “lower”. In the first you will find attractions, a cafe, a theater, an arts and crafts fair, a chess club and even an observatory. In the second, you will walk through the preserved fragments of gardens laid out at the beginning of the 19th century.

The building itself is remarkable – it is the 19th century mansion of the Martyn brothers. A bay window with a pointed tower, spiers, intricate windows, fancy red brickwork – a representative of ancient Rostov architecture has been perfectly preserved. And inside there are exhibitions made up of exhibits from leading Russian museums (Hermitage, Tretyakov Gallery and others).

Undoubtedly, Rostov-on-Don preserves the spirit of its great history, but to truly feel it, it’s worth going out of town. For example, to Starocherkasskaya. This is the ancient Cossack capital, the cradle of the rebel leaders: Razin and Bulavin. Here you can see the flavor of Cossack life, the houses of noble atamans, and landscapes that bring historical episodes to life.
