Going on vacation in September is a great decision. The resorts of Southern Europe are no longer so crowded, the heat has subsided, prices have dropped, and the sea is still warm. South Asia has dry, sunny weather, suitable for a beach holiday and participation in one of the colorful religious festivals. Fashion Weeks take place in the capitals of Europe, and the amazing Burning Man festival takes place in the Black Rock Desert in America. We will tell you where to go to relax on the seashore and have fun at the festival, take part in a procession with elephants, dancers and get to a village from a fairy tale.
1. Barcelona, Spain – sun, sea, holidays and carnivals
The weather in Barcelona in September is wonderful – no higher than +25 °C during the day, +20 °C at night, the sea is still warm. There are much fewer people on the beaches and hotel prices are much more affordable than in high season. Barcelona is a city of joy and art. In the Old Town you will find Gothic architectural masterpieces, and in the Eixample district you will find houses and a cathedral designed by the great Gaudi. The city hosts holidays, festivals and carnivals all year round – on September 11, the whole of Barcelona will celebrate Catalonia Day. Houses and streets will be decorated with Catalan flags, “living” pyramids of people will be built in the squares and concerts will be played, and the holiday will end with fireworks.
2. Crete, Greece – perfect weather, warm sea and ancient palaces
Crete is a Greek island with the best climate for holidays in early autumn – during the day it is no hotter than +28 °C, at night +18-20 °C, water temperature +24 °C. There is no wind or precipitation on the island in September, making it ideal for a beach holiday. There are hundreds of beaches here – from huge and fully equipped – with sun loungers, umbrellas, restaurants and parking, to secluded bays. In addition to endless beaches, the island has the ruins of the Minoan civilization in Heraklion and Falasarna and Byzantine monasteries, the huge Samaria Gorge and the beautiful Lake Vulismeni.
3. Bibury, UK – a village from fairy tales, with legends and ghosts
Bibury, a village in the Cotswolds region, has been repeatedly named in the press as the most beautiful village in Britain. It was founded in the 11th century and flourished for centuries thanks to the wool trade. The famous cottages, which became the hallmark of the village, were built in the 14th-17th centuries from shell rock, and tiles for roof cladding were made from it. Over the past 400 years, the village has not changed at all – houses, as if from a fairy tale, buried in flowers, lovely gardens, endless meadows and beech forests. In September it is still warm in Biburi and there are much fewer tourists than in summer.
4. Mumbai, India – temples, forts, Bollywood and the colorful Ganesh festival
Mumbai is the largest city in India, with a huge fort, ancient temples, bazaars and Bollywood. Mumbai has amazing sights: the Mumbai Fort and the railway station are an amazing mixture of neo-Gothic and Indo-Saracenic styles of architecture, Dhobi Ghat is a huge washermen’s quarter where nothing has changed for hundreds of years, Malabar is a hill with the Hanging Gardens, Zoroastrian towers and sacred springs . In September, Mumbai is worth coming to see the Ganesha festival – with dancing, immersion of hundreds of Ganesha statues in the sea, concerts, parades of elephants and dancers.
