What to see in Stavropol?

Alexandrovskaya Square

Weekend itinerary: Stavropol

The beautiful area includes large shopping centers, administrative buildings, a museum, cafes and restaurants, as well as the “Guardian Angel” of the city – a tall red granite stele with a winged figurine on top. There are fountains at the foot during the warm season.

Tiflis Gate

Weekend itinerary: Stavropol

The Arc de Triomphe was erected on the 30th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino and served a practical purpose – it served as a city gate. Now it is one of the main attractions and a popular tourist location for photos.

Museum of the History of the Cossacks

Weekend itinerary: Stavropol

Here is the personal collection of the ataman of the Stavropol Cossack society: weapons hung on a homespun carpet, orders, medals, photographs, uniforms of the Terek and Kuban Cossacks. A large-scale diorama that occupies an entire wall will help you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the 18th-century village. It shows everything from dusty roads to thatched roofs of white mud huts.

Entrance ticket – 70 rubles*.

Fortress Mountain

Weekend itinerary: Stavropol

On the territory there are remains of ancient fortress walls, monuments from different eras, including modern ones. The most recognizable and massive one is for a Red Guard soldier. It stands on an open area with a magnificent view of the city. And a cascading staircase leads to the cathedral – one of the tallest buildings in the North Caucasus region.

Taman Forest

Weekend itinerary: Stavropol

Shady alleys, mysterious paths, springs, to which ancient stone steps lead. A small river Tashla flows here, and five springs come out of the ground. Some form small waterfalls, others form entire pools in which you can swim. Over one of these pools there is a suspended bridge with rope railings – very picturesque.

German Bridge

Weekend itinerary: Stavropol

The viaduct, built from shell rock, is well preserved, although it is more than a century old. You can get to it without special equipment. Then from the high bridge going into nowhere you will have a stunning view. In the surrounding area you can take a walk and even set up camping – the places here are suitable for this.

Travertine spring

Weekend itinerary: Stavropol

A small waterfall among hornbeam and ash trees. A mossy slope overgrown with ferns, bizarre rapids and potholes. There is a small cave nearby, and under the waterfall itself there is a low grotto. The water is saturated with calcium and everything it touches – branches, leaves, shells – turns to stone. Around there are layers of travertine with frozen plants and insects.
