Dozens of hotels around the world are participating in the Pink October campaign: by staying at one of these hotels, you will support the international program against breast cancer.
In 1992, customers of the Estée Lauder cosmetics chain in the United States received a pink ribbon as a gift for a month as a reminder of the risk of breast cancer and the need for regular prevention of this disease. The idea of the campaign belonged to the top manager of the Estée Lauder company, Evelyn Lauder, and the editor-in-chief of the women’s health magazine Self, Alexandra Penny. So, at the initiative of two women, the pink ribbon became a symbol of the fight against breast cancer, and the promotion in stores marked the beginning of the annual global campaign – Pink October. Now, during Pink October, a host of events are held around the world with two main goals: to spread awareness about the disease and to raise funds for research, prevention and control. In two dozen countries, marathon races and hiking trips are organized, postage stamps and coins are issued, and contemporary art exhibitions are held. Even the evening illumination of world-famous buildings and structures turns pink for a month: Tokyo TV Tower, Dam Square in Amsterdam, Port Bridge in
Sydney, etc.
Hotels are also participating in the promotion. For example, over the years the lighting color of the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic in Cannes, France was changed to pink and
The Peninsula Hong Kong in Hong Kong. In Hilton hotels, some rooms were decorated in shades of pink for a month, and in bars and restaurants you could order a special cocktail (with strawberry syrup) and dessert (strawberry panna cotta with rose petals and pink chocolate praline). At the pool of Shanghai’s Kerry Hotel Pudong, the lane dividers were turned pink for a month. In addition, as part of Pink October, guests were offered special programs in the spa center and gym, and guests of Sunday brunch were treated to a welcome glass of rose wine.
In October 2016, guests at dozens of Radisson Blu hotels and resorts around the world will be able to become philanthropists – a tenth of the cost of staying in Pink rooms will be sent to a regional charity for research and promotion of breast cancer prevention. The full list of hotels participating in the promotion is listed on the website. Room in Pink style is decorated in pink tones: welcome gifts (they promise such),
decorative pillows, flowers. The promotion is valid from October 1 to October 31.
Each of the ten Peninsula Hotels hotels will feature works by Chinese avant-garde photographer and multimedia artist Chen Man from his Nao Nao series. These are photographs of women with a giant pink colon painted over the top. According to the artist’s idea, hotel guests will scrape off the pink paint with bamboo sticks and eventually be able to see the original image. A month later, they plan to sell the photographs at auction, and donate the proceeds to charities.

At the Conrad Hotel in Macau, the chef has created a special tea menu and desserts for the afternoon tea ceremony: raspberry tartlets with pink coconut cream and jasmine tea jelly; white chocolate and pink rhubarb mousse and much more, which, perhaps, is better to taste than read the description. Among the varieties of tea offered will be “Pink Flamingo”, for example. They promise to donate part of the profits from the sale of tea sets to charity.
The Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay will offer its guests an extensive Pink-style menu in October. The “pink” theme will be seen everywhere: in hotel boutiques – pink candies, cakes and chocolates prepared by the hotel chefs as souvenirs for family and friends; in restaurants – special dinners created by a team of invited famous chefs; in bars – cocktails; in the spa – treatments and even lectures on the prevention of breast cancer. But the main bonus, perhaps, is that having paid for a two-day stay in this hotel, you can live here for free for the third day.
