Charter flights: differences from regular flights, advantages and disadvantages

Charter flights: differences from regular flights, advantages and disadvantages

Charter flights are flights that are not operated by an airline, but by a third party, and therefore do not operate on a regularly scheduled basis. Usually the customer is a tour operator who organizes a group tour for a certain period of time. Such flights are arranged on the basis of an aircraft lease agreement between the airline and the client.

The customer can also be any large company that organizes a work event in another country for its employees.

A charter flight can be used at any time of the year in any direction, and often to places and resorts where regular flights do not fly. To do this, they recruit a group of passengers and then rent a plane from the airline. You can book a group trip using the OneTwoTrip for Business service by clicking on this link.

We will tell you more about the advantages, disadvantages and differences between charter flights and regular flights in our article.

What is the difference between a charter flight and a regular flight?

As mentioned above, a charter flight is carried out only if there are a sufficient number of passengers, and the ticket is issued on the day of the flight or even before boarding. Tickets for charter flights become cheaper as the departure date approaches, since the tour operator needs to sell as many seats as possible to recoup the charter of the aircraft.

Unlike charter flights, regular flights are convenient because the passenger pays and receives a ticket a long time before the flight. Also, regular flights operate according to a specific schedule, regardless of the season.

A significant difference is also that at all airports in the world, regular flights will always be a priority. This is why charters are often delayed if there is no free “space” between scheduled flights.

Despite the disadvantages of charters, many people choose this option because the price is significantly lower than regular flights.

Types of charter flights

There are several types of charter flights:

Shuttle charter operates in two directions – takes a group of passengers to their destination, immediately picks up other tourists and flies back.

Split charter involves a mixed type of flight, i.e. Passengers fly part of the journey on a regular flight, and the other part on a charter flight. Therefore, passengers of different groups fly together and for different purposes.

Poly charter also requires transfers, but all flights are charter flights.

Time charterbrings passengers to their destination, waits for them and returns with the same passengers.

Russian charter airlines

Since a charter is just a way to organize a flight, such flights can be operated by any carrier. Airlines are willing to accept orders, as this brings additional profit. Therefore, charter flights can be found on almost all airlines. Among them are Aeroflot, S7 Airlines, Pobeda, Rossiya and others.

In addition, there are airlines that provide charter flights. For example, iFLY, AZUR air, Royal Flight, Red Wings, Nordwind Airlines and others.
