Interesting excursions from local residents in Yaroslavl
Volzhskaya embankment and Strelka
Walking around Yaroslavl, first of all, take a look at the Volzhskaya embankment. Here you can see an impressive view of the Volga, over which hang two bridges with busy traffic. The lighthouse will attract your attention with its spire. Nearby there is a river station building, from where everyone can go on a short excursion by boat.
Turning right, you will see the legendary house-hospital for wounded officers of the Patriotic War of 1812. It was here, according to the plan of the great writer Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy, that the last meeting of Natasha Rostova and Andrei Bolkonsky took place. Another one of the most romantic places on the embankment is the gazebo – a monument to the poet Nekrasov. For a long time, newlyweds attached locks here for eternal love.
And now your eyes open to a view of the Strelka – the confluence of two rivers: the Volga and Kotorosl. This is the historical center of the city, included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here in 2010, a monument to the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl was erected, which is a stele more than 20 meters high on a pedestal. Going down the stairs, you will see a complex of “singing” fountains.
Temple of Elijah the Prophet
Perhaps the most beautiful temple in Yaroslavl can be called the Church of Elijah the Prophet. This building, complex in composition, combines the main temple in the name of Elijah the Prophet, a small northern chapel, a southern Intercession chapel with a refectory and a chapel of the Deposition of the Robe crowned with a tent. The frescoes, the main decoration of the Elias Church, represent a solid artistic expression of the idea of the temple and are distinguished by a wide variety of subjects. No one has ever left here indifferent: space and tranquility are what awaits every guest here.
