Graffiti has long ceased to be a forbidden form of art: today in Russia they specially hold street art festivals and invite famous artists to paint houses and central buildings. We tell you where to look at the brightest, most unusual and memorable objects.
Moscow, “Atrium”
How to find: Kurskaya metro station, st. Zemlyanoy Val, 33.
The capital can boast of very beautiful and unusual examples of street art: many world stars have come here over the years. Perhaps the most striking object is the Atrium shopping center on Kurskaya, which was painted by 11 artists in 2013. Here is the famous calligraphy from the Russian Pokras Lampas (who also acted as the curator of the project), and chromodynamics from the Spaniard Felipe Pantone, and the bright inscription “Moscow” made by the British Ben Ein. Perhaps, “Atrium” is one of the few places in the world where works of masters of similar magnitude coexist in a relatively small area.

Yekaterinburg is considered the capital of Russian street art: several festivals dedicated to street art are held here every year, so there is a lot of bright and unusual graffiti in the city. For example, Elian Chile (Argentina), Fanakapan (Great Britain) came here in different years, and Pokras Lampas depicted a huge Suprematist cross on one of the squares (although all the beauty could only be seen from above).
Perhaps one of the most unusual ideas belongs to the German artists Case and Wow123: on the wall of a building in the central area of the city two hands are painted, launching a bright paper airplane. It “lands” on a high-rise in Magnitogorsk and thus unites Europe and Asia.

This city also has quite a lot of street art, but the unusual works of local artist Nikita Kuznetsov, known under the pseudonym Nomerz, deserve special attention. He looks for human traits in the city: a crack in the plaster turns into a crooked grin, windows become eyes, and a door becomes a mouth open in a silent scream.
Most of Nikita’s works are located in corners of the city remote from the center. The water tower, included in the list of the 100 best street art objects in the world, is located in the backyard – but it’s definitely worth getting to. You can also just walk around the city, looking for “humanized” buildings.

How to find: st. Chetaeva, 47.
In 2021, as part of the Cultural Code street art festival, as many as 7 graffiti from artists from four countries appeared on houses located on White Flowers Boulevard. Two murals are dedicated to the novel of the same name by Abdurakhman Absalyamov. We like the drawing created by Vyacheslav Gunin: he depicted the heroine of the work on the wall of a residential building.
St. Petersburg, Exotica at Berthold Center
