Money doesn’t have to be a barrier to your dream trip: if you’re looking for an adventurous experience, rest assured there’s no shortage of great destinations that don’t require a lot of money. Take a closer look at countries in Central and South America, Africa and Asia, they will not require large budgets.
1. Guatemala
You don’t hear much about Guatemala: it’s in the shadow of Mexico and Costa Rica, but that’s starting to change. Just imagine: lush jungles, steaming volcanoes, sparkling lakes and colorful cities. It’s worth going here to fall in love with the small Lake Atitlan, where on a small boat for just $2 you can move from one village to another, to live in a real bungalow for just a few dollars, to climb to the top of some active volcano and to have a drink tequila for 50 cents at a rooftop bar in Antigua.
2. Argentina
Few countries offer as diverse a range of experiences as Argentina, from the stunning Iguazu Falls, majestic Patagonia and sophisticated Salta to the stunning landscapes of San Carlos de Bariloche, the bustle of Buenos Aires and the amazing wine of Mendoza. Add to all this incredibly delicious food and the friendliness of the locals, and there seems to be no reason to stay home anymore. The buses here are some of the most comfortable in the world, so skip the flights and save money in comfort: comfortable beds, wine, food, movies – you may not even want to get off.
There are several trekking routes open to the public, which will eliminate the need for expensive bookings and travel, and wherever you are, you can always find a restaurant with an excellent steak and a glass of dry red for less than $15.
3. Vietnam
Wherever you go in Southeast Asia, you can’t go wrong. Vietnam combines the cleanest beaches, delicious cuisine, stunning temples and very low prices.
On the mandatory program: soak in the beauty of Ha Long Bay, explore Phong Nha National Park and stroll through the old romantic streets of Hoi An. Treat yourself to a spa pedicure for $4 and pamper yourself with a room with all the amenities and air conditioning for less than $16. Food here is even cheaper: a large bowl of rice noodles with pork, chili and aromatic herbs will cost you $1. And don’t forget to add a glass of fresh beer for 25 cents.
You can even get yourself a custom suit – life is great in Vietnam in general.
4. India
When you first come to India, as a rule, there are several attitudes that you need to get used to: for example, just as much as you love something in the country, there will be something that you hate . Take a train from Rishikesh in the north of the country to Kerala in the south, visit the Taj Mahal and visit Varanasi. Try the thali (various dishes of rice, vegetables, meat and sauces collected on one plate),
it will cost about $2. Sunbathe on one of the Goa beaches, an overnight stay there will cost $5.
Wherever part of India you go, don’t try to see everything – it’s a huge country, but if you get yourself a good driver (it won’t cost a fortune),
then you can grab a lot.
5. Morocco
If you are looking for adventure but are on a budget, then Morocco is one of the best options. There are many travel agencies here offering expensive excursions, but you can get the same experience if you are more savvy and spend more time organizing. For example, skip the $300 excursion that offers a night in the desert on camels and take the public bus there yourself, and you will be surprised that the same tour can be purchased on the spot for $40.
And if you suddenly feel tired of Morocco, then take the ferry for $24, and in an hour and a half you will be in Spain.
