In the “Cudablin” project, we send completely different people on trips at our expense! Alexey and Maria Glazunov visited Georgia: they visited little-known and breathtaking places, experienced Caucasian hospitality and dispelled all stereotypes about this country. More details in their report!
See the first part of the report here.
In this article I will tell and show a little about the beautiful region of Georgia – Kazbegi, but not those places that have been written and rewritten on the Internet, but those that not everyone perhaps knows about, and therefore are rarely there who happens.
If you are traveling around Georgia in your car from Russia through Vladikavkaz, then definitely read on, at a minimum you should look at the Daryal Gorge, walk through a juniper grove and perhaps even take a refreshing dip in the tall Gveleti waterfall, it is located just 4 km from the border with Russia (or rather, from the Upper Lars border crossing). Well, if you are driving an SUV, then, without a doubt, you have a direct road to the beautiful Chaukhi mountain range!
Chaukhi mountain range
We rented an all-wheel drive Mitsubishi Delica (you can’t drive a regular car here) and headed to the high mountain village of Juta, which is located at 2100 m.
The road goes along the mountainside right above the gorge, and the Chaukhi mountain river flows below.
From the village of Juta, where we parked, to the first point – Zeta Camp, there are 2 routes, both very short, the first leads through the village, we went up by it, and went down the second – bypassing the village.
Some houses are covered with cow feces (see the first floor) – this is the mountain method of insulation.
Zeta Camp is located on the way to the base camp, here you still have all the benefits of civilization, you can eat, take a warm shower, and stay overnight in both a house and a tent. The local atmosphere and views of Chaukha are perfect for relaxation.
Well, closer, within one day, in order to have time to return to the hotel, you can go to the rocky ledge with the waterfalls of the Chaukhi River and to the huge 10-meter boulders that once fell from the rocky towers of Chaukhi, on them Climbers are training, stakes are driven into the boulders.
This time we just enjoyed the atmosphere at Zeta Camp and went up a little higher to the 5th Season, there is another parking lot, music is playing, there are poufs, there is also a cafe and a hotel. I followed the example of the Israelis sunbathing nearby, and also sat down on a stone heated by the sun’s rays.
Beauty, peace all around,
I didn’t want to leave at all…
Mount Chaukhi is very unusual, it is a rock massif with several peaks, the highest peak is Northern, 3842m. In general, the Chaukhi mountain range is the place where you want to come with a tent to spend at least a few days here, go on a couple of treks, feel all the incredible power and strength of the mountains in the valley, and of course, see the wonderful lakes.
I hope that our story about the mountain beauties of Georgia will be useful to you, and if you are not planning to visit Georgia yet, then I would like to believe that you had a pleasant time virtually traveling with us through this unique corner of Georgia.
