Remember how in the days of film cameras there were only 36 frames per vacation, and they had to be spent wisely? Then the film was developed, the pictures were printed and placed in a carefully stored album. Now life has changed a lot, but almost everyone still has such an album, it’s just that its weight is measured not in kilograms, but in megabytes. The Instagram application is your photo book, which is updated only with the juiciest shots. To make your vacation a little more interesting and definitely preserve the most vivid memories, give yourself a small challenge – three photos a day, and we will tell you how to make them cool and memorable.
Wake up early
The best shots are obtained in natural light, but at the same time it is desirable that the light be soft. Morning and evening hours are ideal for this, when the sun is not at its zenith. Another argument in favor of getting up early is that even in popular tourist places, people mostly come after breakfast. Get up at dawn and you can take a photo on an empty beach or on a beautiful road without cars. Besides, looking at the city before it woke up is a pleasure in itself!
Forget about modesty
Feel like a free and mischievous child, climb trees, climb rocks, stand on your head. Firstly, it’s fun in itself, and secondly, it’s much more interesting than a simple photo against the backdrop of a landmark.
Look for interesting textures and bright colors
When you want to share your beautiful weekend outfit and a wide smile, a uniform, minimalistic background will not distract attention, but will highlight your personality. Photos look especially cool against the background of bright walls, flowering hedges, or tiles with a repeating intricate pattern. Look around, go into inconspicuous nooks and crannies, explore the city!
Climb higher
The most breathtaking views unfold before your eyes when you climb higher and survey endless landscapes, be it mountains, sea, fjords or desert. To convey in a photograph the depth and power of the impression made by a place, there is a simple rule: nature is big, man is small. It is absolutely not necessary to look into the frame, and on the contrary, it is better to direct your gaze and whole heart into the infinitely distant horizon.
Catch the wind
The wind was the engine for the first travelers, and although now we are transported by planes and trains, the romance remains in its gusts, in the way it flutters hair and inflates the “sails” of light summer sundresses. So, if it’s windy outside, put on your loosest clothes, take a light scarf and go for a walk in the city square or by the sea, where the movement of air will breathe life into even a banal shot.
“Fit” into the paintings
Shots that have natural frames look great: windows, doors, arches. In such pictures it is important that there is nothing superfluous; if, for example, you are standing in one of several arches of a bridge, it is advisable that there is no random passerby in the others.
Pick a nice hotel with a good view
If you want to take pictures in a hotel, then it will definitely be pleasant to wake up in the morning, and this largely determines the mood for the whole day. A “home away from home” should be pleasing to the eye not only for photography, but also for the soul. And a photo with a cup of coffee on the balcony with a cool view will also please your subscribers.
Take photos horizontally
By placing the height of the object you are interested in in a horizontal frame, it will be much easier for you to crop a square photo, standard for Instagram.
Composition is the key to success
Build the frame harmoniously, without overloading it with unnecessary details. Remember: “Minimalism is our everything,” so if something or someone is bothering you in the frame, remove something or wait until someone leaves.
Take a lot of pictures
If you and your travel companions are not gifted at photography, just take a lot of photos so that you have plenty to choose from. Quickly look through the resulting photos without going far from the place, suddenly a small turn of your head or one step to the side is missing from the perfect photo, it will be a pity to find this in the evening at the hotel.
Forget about standard filters on Instagram
Instagram itself doesn’t offer the best filters for photos. Yes, there are a couple in the form of Juno, Ludwig and Lo-Fi, which can be used not 100%, but in very measured doses, and they are not suitable for all photos. Mainly for sunny shots that want to add contrast and richness. There are excellent filters in the VSCO Cam and Afterlight programs, with their help you can create a very appetizing picture.
Some may say that the race for beautiful shots is a stupid idea, but you must agree, as long as it encourages you to spend your vacation actively and interestingly, there is nothing wrong with it!
